Match Review LS16 | Selangor FC 1-0 Negeri Sembilan FC | Malaysia Super League 2025/26 | Kim Pan-gon’s First Home Victory

Selangor FC secured a 1-0 victory over Negeri Sembilan FC in the 16th round of the 2025/26 Malaysia Super League at the MBPJ Stadium yesterday, moving the team up to second place in the league with 31 points.

Selangor FC dominated the game and pressed Negeri Sembilan’s defence throughout the first 45 minutes. Both teams tried to create chances and break the deadlock, but the first half ended goalless. The visitors launched more attacks in the second half, yet Nooa Laine managed to head in Mukhairi Ajmal’s corner in the 61st minute, which proved to be the only goal of the #SFCNSE match, securing the victory for the Red Giants. Overall, Selangor FC controlled the match with 61% possession. Despite missing a few opportunities, their disciplined defence ensured a clean sheet.

Following the first home win under Red Giants’ head coach Kim Pan-gon, he expressed pride in the players’ performance but emphasised the need for further improvement.

"We started the match well and created many chances, especially in the first half. The team controlled the game effectively, though scoring an early goal might have led to a different result. The players acted as a unit, followed the plan, and maintained pressure until the final whistle. I am proud of their effort, but there is still room for improvement. We will continue to build the team DNA based on strength, courage, and speed," said Kim Pan-gon.

"The atmosphere was fantastic with the Red Giants fans providing unwavering support, which encouraged the team to fight hard and collect every available point," he added.

From yesterday’s #SFCNSE Malaysia Super League 2025/26, several key takeaways can be highlighted:

Nooa Laine - Man of the Match (MOTM)

The midfielder has now scored in two consecutive Malaysia Super League matches in 2025/26. Yesterday, he netted the only goal in the 61st minute with a header from Mukhairi Ajmal’s corner. This was his third goal of the season and his fourth overall for Selangor FC: two in the 2025/26 Super League against DPMM FC and Negeri Sembilan FC, one in the first leg of the 2025 FA Cup semi-final against Sabah FA, and one in ACLTWO 2024/25 against Cebu FC.

Mukhairi Ajmal finding his rhythm

Mukhairi played a crucial role on the right flank, controlling the tempo and linking play effectively throughout his time on the pitch. His presence helped Selangor FC maintain possession and team balance, and he contributed to the winning goal via his corner, which Nooa Laine headed in. His running and effort in both attack and defence deserve praise, particularly after returning from a long-term injury.

Defensive line performs strongly

Safuwan Baharudin, Mamadou Diarra, Quentin Cheng, Mohammad Abualnadi, and substitute Zikri Khalili performed well to repel the rapid attacks from The Jangs’ forwards. Their coordination, together with the rest of the team, helped goalkeeper Kalamullah Al-Hafiz secure his eighth clean sheet of the season.

Next, Selangor FC will begin their 2026 Malaysia Cup campaign at the Sultan Muhammad IV Stadium against Kelantan The Real Warriors FC in the first leg of the Round of 16 at 9:00 PM.

Selangor FC management greatly appreciates the presence of 6,733 Red Giants supporters who helped energise the MBPJ Stadium, Kelana Jaya, yesterday. Keep up the unwavering support for the upcoming matches!
